Steve Trussell holds a B.A. and Master’s Degree from Arizona State University, as well as aPost Baccalaureate Degree from Ottawa University. He began his career in mining as a
consultant for the Arizona Mining Association (AMA), advocating for the copper mining industry
and later working with the Arizona Foundation for Resource Education. In 2001, he joined the
Arizona Rock Products Association (ARPA) as Community Relations Director and was named
Executive Director in 2007. In this role, he promotes and protects the sustainability of the rock
and construction materials industry by engaging with Arizona public officials on policy,
regulatory, and community relations matters. In 2017, Trussell expanded his responsibilities by
also becoming Executive Director of the Arizona Mining Association, where he continues to
champion the mining industry and applies his expertise in community relations, government
affairs, and the legislative and regulatory arenas at all levels of government. He has served on
numerous boards and committees, including the Governor’s Regulatory Review Council, the
Executive Committee for the University of Arizona’s Mining School, UA’s Technical Advisory
Board for the Center of Environmentally Sustainable Mining, the Arizona Chamber of
Commerce Board of Directors, the Arizona Tax Research Association Board, and the Bureau of
Land Management’s Resource Advisory Council. Trussell is also a Phoenix Police Reserve
Officer, has been nominated twice for national instructor of the year awards, and was inducted
into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame. He has received the Adjutant General’s Medal
from the Arizona National Guard, been recognized as Policy Leader of the Year at the Arizona
State Capitol, and was honored as the State Association Executive of the Year by the National
Sand, Stone and Gravel Association.
